Grapes and Gripes!

Kinja'd!!!

Today we'll look at a Ford F-550. It's a truck from a grape farm, and it's a suiting shade of purple ish. It's not a very pretty color, and I'm not sure how to describe it. I have never ridden in anything quite as stiff as this truck. It's a very heavy duty truck, and it's got an aluminum flatbed. That means there's nothing holding the suspension down whatsoever, and you feel it. I hit a pothole and it scared me so bad I thought I ran over a parked car. The commercial tires it's on don't help one bit. This thing was made to work though. Don't let the leather seats and other Lariat parts fool you. Dirt, dust, and a few character marks (for example, electric tape patching holes in the seat.) Powerstroke! 10 miles to the gallon! Traction control through the first three gears in two wheel drive!

I love the Super Duties. Just not this one. It would be better if it was only a 350. I'm sure the farm would prefer the 550 though.

First Gear is a new column, about a kid, a car lot full of new cars, and a habit of noticing random things. It's written from the view of a Ford dealer's lot attendent who for some reason thinks you care about the cars he spends very little time in. He also thinks you actually care about his random thoughts and will randomly post them to Oppositelock at his leisure. Just don't give him an excuse to break into full reviews. He can't handle that level of greatness.

There's a '66 F600 passing through at our place. Not currently running right, but we'll work on that. It definitely has... gravitas. Also gravity.

You'd be surprised how heavy that rear axle is. Took 3 of use to move it 3 feet when the fork lift was fubar'd.
